Losing things and getting lost.

---------- FOR ENGLISH SEE BELOW ----------

Mijn eerste twee weken college zitten erop.

Of zoiets.

Fijn.

Liefs uit Oulu!

---------------------------- ENGLISH VERSION ----------------------------

My first two weeks of classes are done. From the 7 times I had to be at the university at 8, I didn’t wake up for school three times. So, everybody is already having the best possible impression of me. The problem is, there is no moment you can rest. University, activities, parties, roommates, everybody and everything is so much fun, but there is no time for yourself. And well, apparently I make up for that time when I should be in class.. you could say I found a way to cope. Now, after two weeks, I’m starting to feel the pressure of the exam from next week, which I did not do anything for yet. How I cope with this sudden awareness? Writing my blog. Because, as you all know, I am the biggest procrastinator of the world and I have to live up to that title.

Two weeks of classes. Two weeks of getting lost in the university and city. Naturally, we already knew I have a very bad sense of direction, but the last two weeks I went way beyond a ‘bad’ sense. I have to cycle the same path for two weeks now (except the days I overslept..) and I still cycle the wrong way every other time. My cycle buddy, Garance, is still amazed by this level of stupidity. The university isn’t making this any easier, since the building is sort of mirrored and I always seem to be on the wrong side. Fortunately, accuracy is apparently not a very big thing here in Finland, because although I was late every often, the teacher was even later. Maybe they got lost too?

Another thing. I wouldn’t be Emmy if I wouldn’t lose everything all the time and sadly I didn’t leave this good habit at home. My keys, telephone, wallet, studentcard, calendar, and so on. But as always, it is never really lost, just temporarily unfindable. And I have a very awesome cycling buddy, not telling names though, who came up with a very nice nickname because of this: Squirrel (In Dutch: Eekhoorntje). Why? Good question. Apparently, squirrels hide their food in the ground and forget where they put it. So they thought that is a very suitable nickname. Well, weird biologists.. The best part is that she decided to use the Dutch word. Problem, she is French. Yes. So it sounds très ridicule: Ekwanje. Or something like that..

Recently, I can call myself a real Finnish student. Yes, I have bought my overalls. Including my awesome patches. I have never been this sexy and elegant in my life before. The great thing about them is that Finnish people especially wear them to parties. Because, apparently, it is not hot enough in the clubs, it has to feel like a real sauna or something. Don’t forget, we are in Finland.

From the many activities we had over the last few days, there is one I would like to mention: the Foodfestival, around the world in 3 hours. That was so much fun. Everybody had really made the best of it and I never ate that much in 3 hours. Tasted a delicious Finnish treat, which I will make often in the future: kookospallot.

Although I could write for hours about Icehockey, running around the lake, going to the gym, activities, parties, etc., I should really get back to studying!

Love, from Oulu!
